What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure performed on the skin using mechanical abrasion. This procedure is used to remove the top layer of skin (dead cells) to decrease pores, rebuild collagen and elastin, and reduce wrinkle depth. It is also used to rejuvenate the skin and treat acne by unclogging pores.
Microdermabrasion was originally and still performed professionally by dermatologists, nurses, aestheticians, and spa technicians, but now there are home treatments available. On average, microdermabrasions performed in a professional setting will run between $75.00 and $200.00, depending on your location and who is performing the procedure. That is each time you have it done. No wonder we now have home kits available.
About Microderm GLO – The Company
Microderm GLO was founded by members of the American Academy of Dermatology. They develop, manufacture, and market their products as professional-grade, dermatological, and healthcare.
Interestingly, I couldn’t find when the company was founded, but the back of the user guide says they’re located in Chicago, IL. The products are made in the USA and the name at the bottom of their website is listed as Microderm Skincare USA.
About the Product
The Microderm GLO MINI is designed as a home treatment alternative to professional spa treatments. This product is safe and effective for all skin types and fast and easy – a 4-minute facial treatment. The time it takes to see results varies for each person.

My Experience With the Microderm GLO MINI
I have been using this product twice a week for the last three weeks. So far I am satisfied with the results. I have noticed an improvement to my pores and the skin on my cheeks is softer and smoother. I actually started to notice a difference after my second use and I’m seeing improvements with each use. I have not, however, seen any change in my wrinkles. Maybe that will improve with time, but I had to use the current results into consideration in my ranking.
I do have to note that it leaves my face red for about 2 hours. I recommend using it at night unless you’re not leaving the house for a while. I also want to note that you do NOT want to get this near your eyes because the suction is strong.
The suction doesn’t hold when I try to make long strokes. My bone structure may be to blame here, but I’m not sure. I do have a long forehead and high cheek bones though. It does work fine as long as I use short strokes.
Here’s a breakdown by pros and cons:
- I have already saved $360.00 (based on 6 spa visits at the lowest average cost).
- I can do this in the privacy of my own home (in my PJs).
- I don’t have to make an appointment.
- My skin is smoother and softer.
- My pores are starting to shrink.
- My pores are cleaner.
- The suction doesn’t work for me in long stokes on my bone structure.
- I’ve not seen any improvement in my wrinkles.
- There is a need to buy replacement parts (only 20 filters included – 30-pack is $16.99 at Amazon – and the diamond tips last between 4 – 6 months when used twice a week – $18.99 at Amazon).
My Recommendation – Yes or No?
My recommendation is that this product is worth the cost. While I’ve not seen any improvement with my wrinkles, I am pleased with the results of my pores, which is my main concern anyway. I guess it all depends on what you’re looking for from this product, but I think it’s a good deal overall.
I would say, however, that if you are under the care of a dermatologist, consult him or her before using a product like this. I would also recommend if you have sensitive skin to test it on a small part of your face – like your forehead – before using it on your entire face. I’ve not had any issues with breakouts, but you know your skin, so do what you think is best.
This product does come with a 30-day money back guarantee and a 1-year limited warranty. The ranking at Amazon is 4.2 out of 4 stars, so my ranking is in line with their users. That makes it worth a try to me. Buy it now at amazon.com for $89.99.
